In general, I'm not a huge fan of the trend of making all the classic villains misunderstood--sometimes there is a danger in making evil too sympathetic, after all--but this one did so in an interesting manner.

I did like the relationship between the King, Queen, and Snow at the beginning, I just felt like without having more of the inner thoughts of the Queen, the change was too abrupt. Disney Villains Fairest of All recounts a version of the story that many over the ages have viewed as plausible.

She is also the author of Evil Thing: A Villains Graphic Novel and the standalone novel Raising the Horseman. Another tale far less often spoken of is the one that explains what caused the Queen to become so vile. Not a fan of the original novel series but I am definitely keen to check out all their graphic novel adaptations. I was really excited for this graphic novel because I had loved the book so much, but I ended up disliking it more than I thought.Curious to see if more of the series will made into graphic novels, especially The Odd Sisters and Mother Knows Best. A great examination of how grief, mental health, and abuse can change who we are (note, I don't think those things absolve us for poor behavior). As such, I'm a fan of any tale that attempts to grant the Queen a sense of redemption or justification. The art, which was restricted in color and angular compared to the more rounded Disney characters, was not overly charming to me initially but grew on me as the book went on.
