I don't know how many authors need to hear this as well as people in general: TRAUMA and MENTAL ILLNESS IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR TREATING PEOPLE POORLY. It is heart warming and a full on entertaining read jam packed with emotion……It is flipping awesome! Commissioning surly cab driver Ted to ferry her around seems like her best bet in both tracking down the mystery suitcase owner and retracing her parents footsteps. They had a second date planned and he never showed up but she remembers how different and excited she felt. At the end I really felt that Audrey was using trauma as an excuse for her behavior and I didn’t like that at all.

It will likely resonate with anyone who’s been in a relationship, married or not, and there were so many points I related to. i really enjoyed the cast of characters, and it was fun to read about audrey’s passion for astronomy.

I also didn’t like that there was no talk of any healthy healing of said trauma, just that the partner Audrey ends up with wanted her to tell them about it and that’s where the discussion of it ends. Audrey does have decisions to make in the novel, but there isn't a "triangle" like you might be imagining and the heart of the story is about her personal growth and journey. A bat falls from the ceiling of the church, and many other small things happen that makes Audrey wonder.

She now lives on the island of Jersey in the UK, and balances her writing career with taking care of two small children. guy', the man she met six years ago and had one amazing day with but never saw again - Audrey can't help but see it as a sign. Sophie adapted her debut novel This Time Next Year into a screenplay and the film, staring Sophie Cookson and Lucien Laviscount, should be released late 2024. It was the book equivalent of those cringey tumblr stories that all end with “and then everyone on the plane clapped” and aren’t remotely realistic. But romance should be unpredictable and full of fireworks, and as the big day approaches, Audrey's found herself wondering if Josh really is The One. I am actually lost for words with how to describe Before I Do It has gave me hours of entertainment and I am gutted I finished it in one sitting. Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year's birthday is unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she's never met. While this book is a romance, the added mother/daughter relationship and how it impacted Audrey so significantly is what takes this book from an average rom-com to a romance with more depth. After reading the synopsis, I was initially hesitant to try this novel because I was afraid there would be a love triangle.

The story is told with chapters that alternate from the build up to the wedding, to chapters from Audrey's past, some six-seven years ago, when she met Fred, and also charting the build up of her relationship with Josh some time later. An amateur astronomer, it feels as if Audrey is constantly giving up her dreams and has watched all of her friends, even her mother, continue to couple up. I loved how I was never sure quite how it was going to end, and I kept thinking about it even when I wasn't reading. She has written four novels; This Time Next Year, Just Haven't Met You Yet, Before I Do and The Good Part.
