Aged Tawny Ports have been aged in wooden casks for an extended number of years and in the process their colour lightens and they take on a softer character. Bulas 20 years old Tawny is the result of a careful blend of port wines aged in oak casks, in the Quinta winery, following the old Douro winemaking traditions (“20 Years” indicates an average age).

In every sense, Fonseca 20 Year Old Tawny is a remarkable expression of the art of winemaking and ageing. This is deliciously delicate with pale colour andhazelnut, cinnamon, orange peel and dried apricot flavours – made from a blendof on average twenty years old cask-aged tawny ports. Between the mountains and the coast, on fertile clay soils, is Bairrada (barro is Portuguese for clay). Once dominated by rather lack-lustre co-operatives, the area now has a whole clutch of dynamic, small producers making elegant, approachable and enjoyable wines. While a few shippers have experimented with Ports produced from a single variety of grapes, all Ports commercially available are from a blend of different grapes.
