They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. They are not mouthpieces to tell kids what the author believes is wrong with the real world now, like so many YA books are right now. Like all Demonata, especially with him being a demon master, he doesn't need any sustenance to survive. Lord Loss follows Grubbs Grady, a teenage boy who stumbles upon the remains of his family who have been brutally murdered by demonic beings.

I have not read very many books that are written in the present tense, so it was a little different at first. Trading Address (Warehouse) Unit E, Vulcan Business Complex, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EB. While he claims he does not fear Beranabus, he is nonetheless unwilling to face the Demonata's deadliest enemy in direct combat. It is stated that he will now act as the omnipresent figure of malevolence in the minds of all sentient beings, and will continue causing misery and woe for all. However, he did not wish any of the group that destroyed the tunnel to live (although Bran survived).During his fight with Grubbs all his arms were severed, but after Grubbs ran away he regrew them using magic. The opening book in a twelve book series about vampires (titled The Cirque du Freak series in the USA, but known as The Saga of Darren Shan in the UK and the rest of the world), it attracted rave reviews and an ever-growing army of fans known as the Shansters! Having read The Saga years ago and loved the series I tried Lord Loss but couldn’t go beyond the first few chapters.

On opening his bedroom door, Grubbs finds not the bedroom but Hell and the dead bodies of his father, mother and younger sister, all murdered by Lord Loss and his demons. Then Grubbs realizes that Lord Loss is feeding on his despair and then decides to play with an aloof attitude. If you are a fan of horror stories and don't mind gruesome character deaths, then I recommend this series to you. His books have been read by millions of people around the world and translated into more than 25 languages. This first book had elements of mystery and suspense as the hero begins to suspect his uncle suffers from an ancient curse, a curse that may have led to tragedy for his family. Stephen King for kids … Darren Shan has brought his own brand of vampire mythology into the heads and hearts of thousands of children with his vivid and compelling series The Saga of Darren Shan, about one boy's journey from ordinary lad to vampire prince.

Dervish rushes to save Grubbs when he's threatened, then Grubbs takes his place and makes a bad game worse. I know that the target audience is teenagers, and despite this, I would have given it 4 stars as it has a great storyline, however, the author was writing in first person as a teenage character. As the book goes on the tension and sense of desperation builds to a fever-pitch, culminating in a shocking betrayal and a deadly final confrontation. A big film buff, with a collection of more than four thousand movies at home, Darren also reads lots of comics and books, and likes to study and collect original artwork, especially comic art and impressionist and post-impressionist art.Though he does have a natural sadistic streak that is ingrained in his personality, his cruelty largely comes from the fact that he literally feeds on suffering. And I don't think I'd let a child under a mature for his/her age 12 (and that's being generous) read this book. He then requests Bec to kill one of them, and is greatly pleased when she instead destroys all the souls from the Board, allowing Death/The Shadow to enter through Bec. As a massive fan of the Darren Shan saga I had high expectations for this series, I was pleased to discover that the first book - Lord Loss well and truly lived up to all of these!

Lord Loss purposefully assisted in stopping the demon attacks on Ireland, due to the fact that the human world was where he got his power from, through misery and sorrow. I loved Darren Shan's Cirque Du Freak series (I mean, seriously, almost literally drooled over waiting for each edition of those books.Other interests include long walks, watching soccer (he's a Tottenham Hotspur and Ireland fan), listening to pop and rock music, theatre, worldwide travel, sampling the delights of both gourmet cuisine and finger-licking junk food, and dreaming up new ways to terrify his readers!
