The amount of thoughtful effort that went into the Hybrid Theory cover is what makes it such a lasting piece of rock iconography. in substitution for Chi Cheng, who was seriously injured in an automobile accident in Santa Clara, California on November 4, 2008. The cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man" was recorded before the group's debut album Adrenaline (1995) when vocalist Chino Moreno was about 17 years old. The longer you stare into the eyes of the "butterfly sugar baby" herself, the more credibility the latter achieves.

The album was a major departure from the band's earlier sound, incorporating elements of trip-hop and shoegaze into their signature metal style. The interview is short but it's a pretty cool read regardless, especially considering I never really gave too much thought about the people who appear on album covers prior to this! Pushing the boundary of what is expected or assumed is a hallmark of both the design and the sound of Deftones' records. The photo itself was shot by Rick Kosick, the skate photographer who went on to become part of the Jackass crew through his work at Big Brother Skateboard Magazine. The Deftones will always be known for their unique sound, which blends elements of metal, shoegaze, and experimental rock.Released in 1997, Around the Fur was the Deftones' second album and the first to feature their signature sound. The one for 1999's Significant Other is their most recognizable, featuring a hooded microphone assassin donning Fred Durst's notorious red Yankees cap and striking a mean pose.

Their masks are creepy as hell, and the fact that the image is just dark enough that it makes it hard to see details make them look even spookier. You can tell exactly what the music is going to sound like just by looking at that image, and once you actually hear frenzied bangers like "Push It" and "I'm With Stupid," there's no better visual representation than a man being zapped in the electric chair. The result was an instant classic, praised by critics and fans alike for its ambition and uniqueness. What's more nu-metal than a snarling boxer who just wants to play ball (and maybe chomp your finger off in the process)? The album is notable for its raw and heavy sound, which was a departure from the band's debut album Adrenaline.Primarily working in album cover and packaging art, Maddocks has worked with artists such as Linkin Park, Deftones, Green Day, Gary Clark Jr.
